Another get up early day to catch the plane from Incheon to Taipei. The CKS (Chiang Kai-Shek) International Airport is about an hour from the center of the city so we took an airport bus into the city. It was pouring as we drove in so the airport bus driver took pity on us and went out of his way to drop us off at the Imperial Hotel. Now this is what you imagine a hotel in the orient to look like. People that come out and greet you with umbrellas, old fashion marble lobby, marble floor elevators, light walls, curved marble staircases with mahogany railings - all that old oriental elegance that you saw in Bogart movies. Hemingway could have stayed here. After the rain cleared up we spent part of the afternoon walking around the streets in the night shopping center district which is near the hotel. Motor scooters parked everywhere. Not big crowds on the street in the afternoon so it is easy to walk around. Lots of food vendors, clothing stores and stores selling everything else to the tourist or shopper. Traffic signals that tell you how many seconds you have to cross or wait for a green light.
In the evening we met with Jerry’s Taiwan distributor, Norman Lu and his wife Sophia. They treated us to a teppan style restaurant where you sit in front of a grill where the chef prepares the dinner. The food, wine and company were great. Thanks Norman and Sophia.
