Drove up the West Coast to Dunedin and then out Anderson Bay to the small town of Portobello. Staying the night at the Peninsula B&B in Portobello. We get wireless Internet in the kitchen of an 100+ year old converted house. Across the street is a restaurant that started in 1908, the same year Kathy’s father was born. We are minutes away from the Westpac Royal Albatross Centre which is home to the world’s only mainland Albatross colony. Albatrosses are big bids with a 2 to 3 meter wingspan that remind you of a U2 spy plane. Had a quick lunch then off to the Centre. Got there then in mid-afternoon and all we saw were Seagulls. Went in the Centre building for a quick look and back out to the viewing area. We were talking to a visitor from Germany when an Albatross flew in front of us and up to the lighthouse where they have a nest with two chicks. Hard to photograph as they pop up unexpectedly and glide-fly right over the hill.
Not many pictures today. Weather is overcast. Kathy who normally tolerates cold weather says its cold and damp. We went to dinner at the 1908 restaurant and had a couple of glasses of wine to warmup.
