Nugget Point

Spent most of the day traveling from Te Anau on the West to Kaka Point on the East Coast of New Zealand.  It seems like we saw millions of sheep.  They are everywhere.  Nugget Point has a lighthouse and is a bird preserve area where Yellow-eyed Penguins come ashore.  Yellow-eyes are very rare, now estimated at less than 3,000 breeding pairs.  Drove out to Nuggett Point at 5 PM and braved the cold winds to get these pictures of the Yellow-eyed Penguins.  The picture is one of a young penguin walking across the sand just after coming out of the ocean.  The pictures of the penguins in the grass are a bit blurry due to the distance and the fact that the birds keep preening themselves.
