Rotorua

Left Auckland and drove South to the geothermal part of New Zealand, home of the Maori culture. The Maori are the native New Zealand descendants of the polynesian who landed here around 1000 AD.   Visited Kiwi encounter at Rainbow Springs where they are trying to bring back the Kiwi population.  Saw Kathy’s favorite, a pre-historic reptile, called Tuatara.  They are still here because no one was on New Zealand to harm them since New Zealand broke away from Australia until 1000 AD.  Also saw the geysers and mud ponds at Te Puia.
