Christchurch day 2

After a late breakfast at this neat hotel where we stayed in Christchurch, we headed back to the city center to mail some stuff to ICS.  The sun poked out from behind the clouds so we were able to get a better picture of the Cathedral and Year 2000 Chalice.   Notice its blue interior.  Then off to visit the Antarctic Exhibit by the airport.  Christchurch is the supply point for several exploration bases in the Antarctic, including one from the United States.  The only other land mass closer to the Antarctic that New Zealand is the tip of South America.  After surviving the storm simulator (we cut out after 2 minutes at -5 °C with a 35 MPH+ wind), we left the exhibit and headed North to the wine country to warm up.  We had a late lunch at Pegasus Bay which is built to look like a German winery.  We also stopped at the Muddy Water Winery where we had a long visit with the lady who owns and runs the winery.  They have a great ‘Mojo Pinot Noir’ which unfortunately they do not export to the US.  Back to the hotel for an early dinner and to pack.  We have a 4 AM wake-up call for our Sunday morning flight to Australia. (ugh!)
